Four new taxa of slugs of the genera Arion and Deroceras are described, viz., Deroceras vascoana spec. nov., Arion (Kobeltia) fagophilus spec. nov. and Arion (Mesarion) urbiae spec. nov. from NW Spain, as well as Deroceras altimirai levisarcobelum subspec. nov. from the French Pyrenees. D. altimirai Altena is considered a polytypic species, with three subspecies, D. a. altimirai Altena, D. a. tarracense Altena and D. a. levisarcobelum subspec. nov. The nominate subspecies is reported from France for the first time. Arion (Kobeltia) anthracius Bourguignat is considered a valid species. Its genital anatomy is described for the first time from specimens collected some 60 km from the type locality. The study of topotypes is still necessary, as the type... |

Micractaeon kakamegaensis Verdcourt, 1993 (type loc. Kenya, Kakamega Forest), is a synonym of Pseudopeas koptawelilense Germain, 1934 (type loc. Kenya, Mt. Elgon); the proper name is therefore Micractaeon koptawelilensis (Germain, 1934). New anatomical data are supplied, more or less confirming classification in the family Ferussaciidae. The shell is subject to some considerable variation in size, shape and sculpture. The species appears to be widely distributed in various types of forest in tropical Africa (Ghana, Cameroon, eastern and south-eastern Zaïre, Kenya, Malawi, and eastern Zambia); hypsometrical distribution is generally from c. 950 m to c. 2300 m, although in Ghana it has been collected at altitudes of between < 250 and c. 700 m. |

Deroceras johannae n.sp. and D. korthionensis n.sp. are described from the Isle of Andros, Greece. Distributional data of Limax aff. conemenosi Boettger, Tandonia sowerbyi Férussac, as well as of an unidentified milacid are provided. Attention is drawn to a peculiarity in the genital anatomy of L. aff. conemenosi, in comparison with specimens attributed to this species from outside Greece. The material has been deposited in ZMA. |

As presently used, the helicarionoid genus Thapsia Albers, 1860 embraces a large, heterogeneous assemblage of species. As a first step in the revision of this group of taxa, the genus Thapsia (type species Helix troglodytes Morelet, 1848) is redefined anatomically and conchologically. In the absence of alcohol-preserved material of T. troglodytes, Thapsia ebimimbangana spec. nov. from Cameroon and T. wieringai spec. nov. from Gabon are described to characterize the soft parts morphology of Thapsia. Three new genera are introduced, viz. Saphtia gen. nov. (type species S. granulosa spec. nov.), Pseudosaphtia gen. nov. (type species P. brunnea spec. nov.) and Vanmolia gen. nov. (type species Thapsia sjoestedti d’Ailly, 1896). A second species of Saphtia, S.... |

A lectotype of Arion hortensis Férussac, 1819 and a neotype of A. distinctus Mabille, 1868 are selected in order to assure nomenclatural stability. Descriptions of preserved specimens of these species from large parts of central and western Europe are provided, as well as of living animals from The Netherlands and Belgium. The main characters used by Davies (1977, 1979) to separate the British representatives of this complex were found suitable in the rest of Europe as well, in contrast to some characters given by De Wilde (1983). Arion owenii Davies, 1979 was not present in the material studied. Provisional UTM-distribution maps (50 km grid) of A. hortensis and A. distinctus in Europe (except the British Isles and Belgium) are provided, besides 10 km grid... |
